Block 612: February 23, 2015

IMG_0207

I didn’t format this picture like I normally would (my own fault), and it’s driving my slightly OCD self more than a little crazy today.

Date: February 23, 2015

Crane: 612

Days Spent on Project: 734

Location: NW Portland, OR

Person I would have sent it to: Let’s stay with that ill-fated production.

Barack E. was one of the people involved with the theater that had been rented out for the summer workshop. He was one of the managers, in charge of hiring and finances of the theater itself, but also someone who oversaw all our operations on this “little” workshop.

Most of my interactions with him were a little terse and tense. He was in charge of the bottom line. I was trying to figure out a way to realize something that hadn’t been given a pre-production period or design period or much of a budget for the show’s size.

I should have taken this for what it was… a big lesson that was coming down the pipeline. In the end, it should never be the associate or assistant’s responsibility to ask for or fight for more money for a designer. If a designer asks you to do all that, expects you to do all that, wants you to do all that, and then doesn’t back you up… you’re in trouble.

Oh well.

In the end, I know Barack was just trying to make sure this particular workshop’s production didn’t get out of control. I’m not sure that quest was ever going to be accomplished, frankly.

Music I listened to while sewing: Madonna, again. The MDNA tour album, again. This time it was “Masterpiece” on repeat.

Thoughts/Feelings behind the block: Well, wish me luck.

No harm in trying and hunting and looking and exploring.
