Person I would have sent it to: Janet C.
Janet is the Stage Carpenter at the Yale Repertory Theatre, which means she’s basically in charge of making sure everything (everything) is running smoothly backstage during shows. Since I had the opportunity to complete my work-study assignments running wardrobe at the Yale Rep, I got to spend a lot of time backstage.
Janet is incredibly cool. Even though she’s been at the Rep for a time, she seems to have worked pretty much everywhere else and in every capacity. She’s a team player, she enjoys what she does, she seems to like working with the students at the YSD, and she’s good at what she does; she’s the kind of person you want working on your shows.
My third year at the Yale School of Drama, which was my first year experiencing a “Home-less Thanksgiving,” I spent the holiday over at Janet’s with a bunch of other people who worked at the Rep.
Later that year, Janet was at graduation, like everyone was. When they called my name, Janet waved a flag for me. It was pretty awesome and a few people remember that.
Music I listened to while sewing: I brought out the Fort Fairfield this morning. Today is all about doing things that will keep me Up! and Calm! and Focused! and Motivated!
Thoughts/Feelings behind the block: What do I have the ability to control today?
I will get myself to the dog run with The Dog. I will get to the gym. I spent last night working on organizing a few portfolios for tomorrow’s presentation, and I would like to work on one more to show a bit more range to my work.
I will go over my speech. After bouncing back and forth for the past three days over three directions to take with this lecture, I’m settling on a variation of the first. It’s the least serious of the three choices, but I think (hope) that will be good as it might (I hope) cut my anxiety down a bit and might get the students to engage a bit more than if I were to just lecture.
I’m gonna steam my outfit for tomorrow. I’m going to pack my portfolios. I’m going to figure out where this bus will be at Port Authority. I will psych myself up to go INTO Port Authority and not be skeeved out by it.
I also need to make sure the dog-walker is set for tomorrow.
I should think about details for the California project. I should work on some paperwork for another project. But I know both those things might potentially irritate me… So, I might put them off until Friday.
Onward.
