Opportunity in the air today.

Date: March 20, 2014

Crane: 378

Days Spent on Project: 396

Location: Apartment, Washington Heights, NYC

Person I would have sent it to: Mark B.

Mark was another one of the dramaturgy students in the year ahead of me at the Yale School of Drama. For my 25th birthday, he made me a CD of music that he thought I would enjoy on the occasion. It was composed of:

Walking on Sunshine, by Katrina and the Waves,

Too Funky, by George Michael,

My Lovin’, by En Vogue,

Move Your Feet, by Junior Senior,

Love’s Got A Hold On My Heart, by Steps,

A Little Respect, by Erasure,

If You Buy This Record, Your Life Will Be Better, by The Tamperer

Greatest Love Of All, by Whitney Houston,

Fresh Off The Boat, by Nelly Furtado,

Forca, by Nelly Furtado,

E is for Everybody, by Cooler Kids, and

Cold Rock A Party, by MC Lyte.

Mark is  great guy; incredibly savvy and intelligent when it comes to pop culture and theater (notice how I didn’t lump them together?). He has a passion for The Arts on high and the arts on low, and discusses them with obvious enjoyment

He’s now married, living and working in New York City. He seems incredibly happy, which I’m glad to see; he deserves that.

Music I listened to while sewing: I’ve got Eluvium on this morning. Spotify is getting more and more obscure with its suggestions!

Thoughts/Feelings behind the block: It’s the first official day of Spring, and the sun is pouring through my windows and I can hear birds (lots of them) outside. Their chirps are actually louder than the traffic coming off the George Washington Bridge; perhaps they’re so noticeable because they’ve been absent for so long?

I hope to enjoy them for several months. I’m incredibly ready- like so many other people- for a change in the seasons, for some comfortable weather, for blue skies, for the color green, for the chance to put my wool coats back on a hanger in a closet for a spell.

I’m so ready for a change.

There’s a lot of opportunity in the air today, and I’m hoping that I’m able to make some magic today.
