Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone.
Date: February 14, 2014
Days Spent on Project: 363
Location: Apartment, Washington Heights, NYC
Person I would have sent it to: Robert W.
Every so often at Yale, our professors would be so busy with outside productions that they’d have to find guest teachers to cover their classes. Robert came to New Haven to teach our lighting design classes my first year, mainly in the first semester. He had graduated from the YSD years before, and currently teaches at NYU’s graduate design program.
He always called me by last name at Yale. As I was in the habit of signing all my work with my last name, I’m not sure he ever learned my first name while he taught us.
After I graduated, I had the opportunity to work with Robert a few times, both as an assistant costume designer. Once was for a new opera that premiered in at the Nashville Opera Association, the other was an off-Broadway show that would transfer to Broadway the following year.
Music I listened to while sewing: It’s Lady Gaga’s last album this morning.
Thoughts/Feelings behind the block: Something about yesterday’s snow storm and subsequent crazy weather (rain, thunder, lightning, sleet, all of it) made me extremely productive. I got a lot done. I think this means I’m actually going to be able to get myself to the gym!
I got two additional calls about shows to design yesterday: another web-series (word must be getting out that I *can* work with no budget at all unfortunately) and a job at a university in California. The job in California thinks I live in LA. They want me there on Tuesday… Hmm? How do I make that happen?
The interview I had yesterday was a non-event. I called at the designated time and was promptly hung up on.
Well, I should go. I caught myself up on a lot of work yesterday, which means I can do some things for myself today. The gym and errands await.
Hope your Valentine’s Day is a lovely one.
