The day after.
We’re in the homestretch of 2013, friends!
Date: December 26, 2013
Days Spent on Project: 313
Location: Apartment, Washington Heights, NYC
Person I would have sent it to: Julie R.
During my first season at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Julie was Barb’s (the Crane from yesterday) girlfriend. Over the course of that season, I never really had (or made) the time to hang out with her. I’m not sure we would have had much in common, except the fact that we were both dating Acting Apprentices and we- most certainly- could have bonded over not seeing our respective girlfriend/boyfriend.
But I do know she was always very nice, and seemed very supportive of Barb and her choice to work (unpaid) at Actors Theatre for a season.
In the Spring, as the season had wound down, and everyone was going their respective ways (summer jobs, other theaters, New York, home, etc), Barb and Julie were one of the last people I saw and said goodbye to. I was helping my boyfriend at the time pack all of his belonging into the back seat of his Kia (all his possessions fit into his back seat of a Kia!), so he could begin the long drive out to Los Angeles. As we finished, closing the doors, Barb and Julie were walking on the sidewalk. They said their goodbyes and wished him luck.
Not even an hour later, my heart would be broken for the first time in my life.
I guess I was/am pretty lucky that I made it to 23 before experiencing that sensation. Hm.
I’ll always remember Barb and Julie on that sunny day on 4th Street in downtown Louisville, walking along the sidewalk, if only because of the events that were about to happen.
Music I listened to while sewing: Today, I’ve got the Broadway revival of Pippin playing. I think it’s a great show!
Thoughts/Feelings behind the block: I can’t wait for 2014 to get here! I can’t wait to put this year to bed!
It really just feels like one long string of unfortunate events, 2013 does. I don’t know what to do to correct this- do I burn sage all the time- but 2014 has got to be better than now.
