Block 120: June 17, 2013

I got some yellow!

Date: June 17, 2013

Crane: 120

Days Spent on Project: 120

Location: Apartment, Washington Heights, NYC

Person I would have sent it to: I could practically just go down my hallway in my first year dorm at Kenyon and dedicate Cranes…

So, let’s begin!

Julie. (And this is terrible; I can’t remember her last name.)

She was one of the first friends I made in the hallway. She had taken years of Spanish in high school, like I had, and I frequently went to her for help on my papers for that class. I thought I good with that language, but I knew she was better.

We were thick of thieves for a spell… but as the first year went along and I dived into the drama department scene and she and her new boyfriend became a more permanent thing, we saw less and less of each other… even though we lived maybe 15 feet away from each other.

Music I listened to while sewing: Mika’s Origin of Love. I figured I needed to listen to something other than the Sleep No More playlist for a change.

Thoughts/Feelings behind the block: Well, the weekend is over. I didn’t get too overwhelmed and I was productive! Now I just have to get over today and tomorrow.

It’s the first day of rehearsal for The Tempest. The first day of rehearsal can be a magical time, much like the first day of school… lots of meeting and greeting and smiling and chatting and hope. At that point, literally anything is possible. It’s only days later when the reality of what’s possible with the given resources in the room do things congeal into something tangible.

I have to do a design presentation today. It’s going to be tricky for me; I have sketches I like and want to see realized, but I’m already dealing with the issues of a small budget and a tiny team (of myself and a young assistant [14 years younger!]). How do I stretch these dollars as much as possible?

But, for the moment, I should keep myself in the room with all the other team… hopefully get some of that first day excitement back in me.

Okay. Hope your Mondays go well. We’ve got magic to do!
